It's a great show, I admire all the experts
Are they open to the public?
The museum is Sharon, but the barn is empty when it's not being used as a tv set. They did have an open day last year when the book was released but when they are filming the barn is roped off.
Often wondered how they repair some of the things they do on the show and it's great to see it being done.
It is brilliant all round, and I’m often crying by the end (but I can’t help wondering what Jay does!)
Don't bother with the book of the series, its an absolute rip off. poorly printed, no photos and no information on what the specialists use or how to do stuff. I was shocked that Jay Blades wrote the introduction, he should be ashamed.
Jay Blades is as much of an irritant as Nick Knowles. Will,Steve his sister and all the others are brilliant. One request, please can we have Robert Pugh back as the voice over.
Jay Blades is an excellent furniture restorer but acts as a kind of "compere" on this show.
I find it irritating that Jay Blades is introduced as a 'restorer', he's not, he's an upcycler, big difference.

The real, talented, experts on the show must be shaking their heads, wonder what they really think of him.
He can restore but I think its not a business that makes money, so he uses the same skills to do other things
Jay Blades was the only one that didn't have to audition for the show. Ricochet wanted him to host the show from the start because he has excellent people skills and he is the only one that had any real tv experience. I like him.
Jay has his own company. Quote "Jay Blades is a modern furniture restorer, upcycler and eco designer who’s passionate about sustainability and the environment. The ethos behind Jay&Co is to source vintage and beautifully crafted pieces of furniture and home accessories then restore or reimagine them into works of contemporary design.

Jay divides his time between being a presenter on ‘The Repair Shop’ and ‘Money for Nothing’ and creating his collection of statement furniture under the Jay&Co label.
He has also done a lot for youths with his charity, which is how he came to be noticed. The Guardian did a feature on him long before he was on television.

just had a look at his website shop .very expensive but some lovely things which i will never own
Me too mally, Im completely absorbed while its on. I love all involved in the programme including Jay.
Jay Blades 'statement' - "...restore or reimagine them into works of contemporary design..." - doesn't cut a lot of ice, as most of the stuff I've seen him do consists of painting things and flogging them for silly money.

But for his charity work he should be praised and recognised.

And it's odd, isn't it, that the other true restorers on the programme never seem to resent his presence, even when he (misguidedly) plays the foreman, and tries to hurry them along...

Nice people.

A
allen, he only does exactly what the director tells him to.
Only obeying orders, is he?
Well it is a tv show and they all do as the director tells them. It is partly scripted

If Jay Blades is talented, he has never given any sign of it on The Repair Shop. If he's 'an expert upholsterer', why doesn't he do the upholstering? He wanders around glad-handing the visitors as if he's the proprietor, contributes nothing to the projects, and then has the nerve to stand there next to whoever has done the fantastic restoration and accept the thanks of whoever has come to collect their cherished item. Total waste of space.
