Gave up on it after 15 minutes of the first episode. Saw bits of tonight's during the adverts of the prog about Stanley Baxter (still going strong at 93), and it still looked awful.
Have also given up on His Dark Materials.
I didn't bother with either. Are they that bad?
I was determined to see it through. I was saying please end, please end. It was like drawing teeth. Depressing.
Never again.
I think it (W0tW) was never going to beat the musical version and I loathe Phillip Pullman and all his works.
Unlike Woofy, I love the source material of both series. His Dark Materials is superb IMHO, wonderful acting, a great script which is faithful to the books (even though they seem to have introduced Will a little earlier than in the books) and a joy to watch.

War of the Worlds is hard going. If only they'd stuck to the invasion instead of these time jumps.
Unutterable guff it was.
oh dear, i will still watch the third episode...
Forget flu etc killing off the Martians - they died of boredom
The original film was good. Don't like this one.
I love War of the Worlds as a book and I love Jeff Waynes version. Growing up in Horsell meant I grew up with the story.
I have tried so hard to like the BBC version but I had to give up. It is such a shame
Very disappointed with it. Hard to understand at times.
i will still watch it, as i have watched the other two parts.. it wasn't as good as i was expecting.
I watched Stanley Baxter instead. I found War of the World hard going.
I concur with the other correspondents 3 hours of my life wasted.
Each episode was worse than the previous. I thought it was awful and very hard to stay watching it, constantly hoping for a bit of Jeff Wayne's music to come on and pep it up. It was equivalent to 3 hours of a still shot of porridge.
I have just watched the last part, thanks heavens for that, truly dire.
So disappointed.
so was I. ^^
Hardly followed the book at all and pray tell how the creatures managed to build the tripods and space craft without any hands or fingers?
It was very disappointing.
