Anyone else really disappointed with this? Some terrible casting (Adrian Edmondson?!), poor directing and woeful acting - step forward Stephen Rea for a truly toe-curling 'posh' accent. None of it convinced me, I'm afraid; all rather embarrassing.

Ich; 'I thought it might be good for those after a bit of good old Sunday evening costume drama, but who weren't really all that stuck on Tolstoy.'

I think that's what i meant by being too anglicised. You put it so much better.
I think I read a couple way back mikey but have not read the whole set. I might just do that. In the early 60s (60-63) Asimov was shared amongst the boys who who attended the book club at the Grammar School that I attended. If I remember it was all about robots. I also remember a book of short stories about robots by him.
who who? Anyone seen a teet owl.
I have a nest of them in the kitchen.
I've got a lamb post if that's any gurd?
Togo...it used to be so easy to read the Foundation Trilogy, but not now !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_series

He was persuaded to write sequels and prequels, so there are now 7 books in the Foundation series !

To make it even more complicated, a further three were commissioned by his Estate, after he died in 1992. ( I would give these a miss if I were you ! )

These are the ones in order ::

2.1 Prelude to Foundation
2.2 Forward the Foundation
2.3 Foundation
2.4 Foundation and Empire
2.5 Second Foundation
2.6 Foundation's Edge
2.7 Foundation and Earth

If you decide to plunge in, then let me know how you get on !
Well sorry brainiac , we appear to have pinched your thread. 'She who must be obeyed' gave it 25 mins and was not too enamoured.
Thanks for that mikey. I will give prelude a whirl. I know that I have read some of them, but at random. I may have to wait a couple of weeks though, I go for my second cataract op Thursday morning.
Best luck with that Togo !

And my aplogies to Brainiac as well !
Watched this in 1972 and it was amazing. Last night's was very poor and gave up on it.

Funnily enough that is the version that Davies really slagged off in his interview (tho he did say Anthony Hopkins was very good!)
it was ok. im just praying that the musketeers will be back on soon
OK braynz - I liked it a lot
I remember the 1976 version very well - when I sat down and read war and peace - it took two weeks - anthony hopkins ( I ate his liver with fava beans that one ) was Pierre Bezuhov

Le belle Helene was a buxom wench and was representing France - their failed luuuurve affair is the failed French-Rooshan treaty

Maigret was Count Rostov

I marvelled at this production and thought it "better"
the eighteenth century interiors I thought were nearer what they would have been IMO
Tolstoy wrote the Foundation novels

who translated them out of Russian ?
The 1972 production had its critics

if you recollect Natasha starts off as a 12 y old
and a critic cruelly suggests she is so wild and runabout that she should be pegged out under a tarpaulin ....

Gave up on this boring one but really looking forward to watched the new drama "Jericho" on Thursday evening.
clara55 - The Musketeers won't be on until March. They filmed a little later than usual last year.
I'm waiting for The Musketeers too - can't find anywhere that says when its on aIthough I do beIieve its been fiImed.
