Anyone else really disappointed with this? Some terrible casting (Adrian Edmondson?!), poor directing and woeful acting - step forward Stephen Rea for a truly toe-curling 'posh' accent. None of it convinced me, I'm afraid; all rather embarrassing.

It was a bit too anglicised but enjoyed it overall.
I lasted 20mins before zapping it. I found it pretty dire.
I'll stick with it. I don't know the story, one of those books that I avoided. I found it difficult to sort out who was who, so many of them, and I found myself wondering about how much it cost when the BBC say they have to cut some channels.
Have recorded it to watch tomorrow if it rains yet again
hellywelly, it is partly funded by The Weinstein Company and Lookout Point.
I stuck it only 15 mins I'm afraid. Too many characters and complicated storyline. Wasnt my scene - roll on Mr Selfridge on Friday!!
One of the stars of Selfridge is in War and Peace
Not interested in Mr. Selfridge
No, Daisy, but Ann is
I gave it a miss. Read the book as a lad. But I am reading Joe Halderman's Peace and War. The Sci Fi trilogy. The Forever War and Forever Peace stories were stunning in the 70s, and I am not about to put it down now. You Sci Fi readers must read it. Prescient.
Which was the actor who is also in Mr Selfridge?
I was really looking forward to it, but was a bit disappointed :(

I enjoyed it and thought it was well directed and acted. My only complaint was that there was so little of Tom Burke.
aisling loftus is from mr Selfridges she played the window dresser who married the French guy .
i lasted 10 mins then gave up, not for me!
I had great expectations but I was a little disappointed - I will stick with it though as there is nothing else worth watching. As for Stephen Rea - I thought he was one of the few high points - but then I am loving Dickensian too
Quelle surprise. I thought it might be good for those after a bit of good old Sunday evening costume drama, but who weren't really all that stuck on Tolstoy. It got a good review from the times tv critic tho, which made me think maybe it WAS possible to turn a work like W and P into Andrew Davies/BBC ratings Plc and still capture the original
I forgot about it, tuned in during a 'battle scene' which had echoes of the Dorset hunt in fancy dress on a misty morning - about as epic as a gymkhana reenactment of the poll tax riots.
And tuned out again
In fairness therefore I didn't see enough to judge :-)
Gave it 10 minutes then turned over.
Pretentious rubbish imo.
I thought it was 'War and Peace' lite!
Togo...have you read Asimov's "Foundation" books ?

I can recommend them if you haven't !
