Because some of our young people are being radicalised to go & join militant groups abroad who advocate violence & death, would it be possible to make a law to make radicalisation a capital offence ? We know for example that with today's technical advances it is not easy but possible to trace perpetrators of sexual grooming on line & bring them to justice so we could possibly find those criminals who are leading some of our youngsters to commit treasonable acts. If it is possible to catch the people involved I would suggest maximum terms of imprisonment of at least 30 years.

And if they aren't in the UK?
Capital offence means punishable by death, not 30 years.

canary. The death penalty was abolished in the UK.
30 years, and all that cost on us tax payers, not feasible
You mean a crime for which the death penalty is used ? That is my understanding of a Capital Offence.

We have progressed above that these days.
Precisely ron
capital offence as you stated no longer exists in the uk
Question Author
capital offence definition. A crime, such as murder or betrayal of one's country, that is treated so seriously that death MAY be considered an appropriate punishment.

capital punishment ...it will never be re-instated in this country , forget it
"Osama Bin Laden wasn't in the UK when he was dealt with" whats your point with this ? and the U.S dealt with him, even though its been proved he had NO link with 9/11

///would it be possible to make a law to make radicalisation a capital offence///

No, it wouldn't, we no longer have the Death Penalty, that a Capital Offence calls for.
We're getting hung up :-) by the use of an unfortunately chosen term.

I would hope the act of recruiting for terrorism was already an offence and the situation already covered under existing law ?
