I'm watching it at present and actually think that it is better this year, I thought that the transvestite was really good, also Sweden's entry, but one thing I'm really impressed by is the staging and lighting - I imagine that is all computerized nowadays but very clever all the same. We haven't got as far as Molly yet, but I do think that there is some good songs this year.

Hope before next years competition BBC pulls out of Eurovision and saves a load of licence's payers money. We haven't entered a good song for years.
The winner won because he was a weirdo. Much better songs than that.
We entered a great song this year grumpy
Agree Dave that's what I felt, IMO the song didn't win it was a vote for a weirdo...why did he have to have the beard...shock tactics perhaps?
Yes Conchita was great. But which country entered the child abuse song? It was so out of place.
>>>A bloke with a beard dressed as a woman has won. How depressingly predictable. That's the only reason he won

Eurovision has never been solely about the quality of the song. (If it was, it should only be on radio). It's as much about the performance, which is why we've had 'hamster wheels', trampolinists, in-line skaters, people dressed like Telly Tubbies and much more. Apart from wearing a dress (together with a beard), Conchita's performance actually had very little 'novelty value' to it; instead, he/she relied upon a good song and great delivery. So what's wrong with that?
Nothing Chris, just a matter of taste.
>>>I liked the song, a bit Bond-esque

It's interesting that you should say that, Eve. I made a few scribbled notes throughout the competition in order to remind myself which song was which. Against 'Austria' I see that I've written 'J. Bond theme' ;-)

Someone said on the previous page, "they were glad SHE won"

Not so sure SHE did!!

Taste? Eurovision? In the same thread, Dunnitall? Does not compute!!!

(Eurovision is the singing version of the wonderful 'Eurotrash'. Taste simply doesn't come into it!)
here here Chris. its a drag act! a drag act with a beard. Conchita is a stage name. he wears the beard to make a statement about small miinded people who can't accept people for what they are! His name is Tom Neuwirth.
far as i'm concerned the best sung song won beard or no beard
The booing of Russia made the evening for me.
Georgians hate Russia. More than any country on earth. So the 8 points they gave them plainly shows there was nothing political about it.
You're right, taste is the wrong word about the programme, I was using it regarding song et al....I don't usually watch the rubbish, but the OH wanted to see the voting lol... That's why I'm on here!
who was the winner, man woman or what!!
I give up lol x
I think it was 'what' Caribeing.
Caribeing - the winner was an It.
I quite liked the song, and I can see why it won.

The peripheral 'issues' really don't have a proper place in this format, which has always been as camp as a row of tents, so nothing has really changed, it is simply a little more outré this year.
