This is an awful case, but why did it take 4 years before the CPS made up their minds. Did collecting evidence really take that long ? We will never know of course, but it seems to be rather tardy IMHO.

"The CPS authorised charges following careful consideration of all the evidence presented to us by the police as a result of their investigation. The alleged offences occurred between 12 April 2017 and 26 November 2017."

We don't have a CPS in this part of the planet but nobody seems to have a good word to say about them.

Any change has to be an improvement.
That poor sweet boy - how could any Mother behave so?
Better to take that long and have a good chance guilty verdict than have a case thrown out.
I have no faith in the CPS since my sons partner, who works for them, told me he spends most of his day watching films on his phone.

They don't seem to take the job seriously.

I don't disagree Rowan, but the converse of that is Defence Lawyers challenging witness's memory for 5 years ago (assuming it gets passed to Crown Court which will inevitably stretch the delay accordingly).
>>> "The CPS authorised charges following careful consideration of all the evidence presented to us by the police as a result of their investigation".

That quote doesn't say when the CPS actually received the file from the police. Therefore the delay might not have been with the CPS's processing of the information but in the time that it took for the police to collate the information in the first place, as is often the case.
CPS are and always have been a LibFac shower of excrement who weren't good enough to get jobs in the real world. Not fit for purpose. I used to think we should go back to having the police decide who to prosecute but they are similarly full of LibFac and TROB hand wringers. The CPS should be replaced by an entity that bases is decisions on evidence, public interest and likelyhood of sucess rather than their political opinions.
righto!
