I venture that, that is urban mythery, based mainly on experience and logic but I regularly go into a bar that always tells me it is and the other day one of the barmaids was a law student. I never argue really but I did sort of suggest it may be BS but she insisted it was true! Anyway I cannot find anything saying it's illegal. This link says it just has to be multiples of 25ml.

Never heard of that before and I've spent a lot of time behind bars. 4 pub measures is just 1 home measure.

It is illegal to allow someone to get drunk (very drunk) on the premises but it's something I've known to be acted upon.
It wasn't illegal when tis was published, just frowned upon.

*not
it never was when I worked in (and ran) a pub.
Question Author
like many things in pubs and clubs it's just something that some believe.
Yeah like the bar staff actually check the PubWatch list.
Question Author
what's pubwatch got to do with it?
What people believe in pubs. I thought that would have been obvious.

pubwatch is how they share neerdowell info.
It was a tradition with the gang i ran with that the groom to be had to drink a pint of shorts on his bachelor do,we were never refused to be served when asking for this, although it was made up of different shorts ,not just vodka.
Maybe the landlord has a policy not to serve it but it isn’t illegal
Best thing you can do TTT, is ask if there are any Vodka drinkers on A/B , and have they ever come across this supposed law. it seems a bit of a myth to me.
P/S, TTT. In your headline you say "I never argue really" I think you are telling Porkies again.
Load of rubbish, TTT.
Ummm, @19.40, You say you spent a lot of time behind bars ...Do you mean Holloway ?
How did you guess?
Vodka (along with gin, rum and whisky) must be served in 25ml or 35 ml measures, or multiples thereof, (but not both on the same premises). And that's it. There is no legal restriction to how many "multiples" may be served in one glass. As mentioned, it is against licensing regulations to serve alcohol to somebody who is drunk. There are four classes of people who must not be served alcohol on licenced premises:

1. A person under age.
2. A police officer in uniform.
3. A working prostitute.
4. A person who is drunk.
I remember this from a few years ago in my local:
A few of us chipped in to buy a friend a quadruple Jack Daniels for his birthday. The landlady refused to pour all 4 into one glass, saying that she wasn't allowed to. She did however serve us 2 doubles, knowing full well that we were going to pour one into the other anyway.
I don't know if it is legal or not, but the fact that you can order 2 doubles and pour one into the other, negates it anyway!!
New Judge, how do you identify number 3?
At pub prices, maybe it should be illegal, to help prevent a fool and their money being soon parted.
