Just off the phone from my Insurance Company. Wanted to know if I could claim for the contents of my freezer which defrosted destroying almost everything. Apparently I have a £95 excess. Poorer but wiser!

Same happened to me a while back...didn't bother to claim...cooked as much of the stuff as I could and distributed rest around pensioner neighbours...

Just stopped working overnight Boxy. Had a guy out to look at it and he said the gas was leaking. Repair would be £100 + and as it's about 15 years old not worth the bother. So............have to fork out for new fridge freezer and to fill it! Luckily fridge part is still working so that will do me meantime til I get prices etc for a new one.

Unless I am much mistaken, fridges are cheaper in real terms than they were 15 years ago...if that is any comfort to you.

Maggiebee. I only recommended Tesco because I have had such good deals and service from them in the past. But perhaps Currys might also be worth a look.

A fridge is a funny thing if you think about it. You bring it home, plug it in and then forget about it. It doesn't need its software updating, it doesn't need re-tuning, and if its a frost-free type, it doesn't need defrosting either...it just sits there in the corner of the kitchen and...well... works !

And then one day you come home and there is water all over the kitchen floor. It doesn't even do you a favour by telling you its wearing out !

Try ao.com Maggie, I got replacement my replacement freezer and washer dryer from them recently - both went at the same time! The prices were very good and the service was excellent! I did a lot of shopping around for replacements before I decided to buy from the website.

These things happen occasionally; one has to take it in one's stride. Look at it this way, the premiums have been lower because of the excess. These insurance places aren't charities; for sure, long term, the less you pay them the less they make out of you. Just be sure potential big claims are covered and share the risk.

We got from ao as well, great service, good prices. Ordered 9.30 at night, freezer was delivered the next day at 11.00am. Free delivery, other companies say it will take over 7 days to get delivered due to us being rural, have to disagree on their definition of rural, their loss.
