I am just calming down after a horrible morning - my neighbour went into cardiac arrest - his wife came rushing into me - I went into him and he was going into cardiac arrest - phoned ambulance, they said if he started to vomit get him into the recovery postion. When I went back into the room he was throwing up - I couldn't lift him on my own, and his wife is having cancer treatment, so is not in a fit state herself. I ran into my other neighbour and we both were just getting him on the floor, when the paramadic arrive - thank god.
There were 8 paramedics working on him in her front room - he also arrested again in the ambulance.
Have just checked and they transferred him straight away form our local hospital to the London Chest Hospital where a team were waiting to operate to put a stent into him. He is now stable.
He is a lovely man and it was horrible to see him in such a state.
I think you just go into overdrive and do what you have to do. It just upset me when he came to, he saw me and said hello Denise and then his eyes went to the back of his head and he arrested again. He is 79 and a very private man and would hate for anybody to have seen him in that state.
Oh bless him and his wife, they're really not having a good time of it of late :0(
It's so good they have a neighbour like you to help them out and I personally think a large glass of wine or three are in order to reward yourself!
Towie, you are a blessing to those neighbours. Of course it has upset you. Whatever happens, they came to you for help, help that you immediately gave. Well done, and fingers crossed.
Den...well played.....good to know that a "Health ABer" was on hand.
He will have angiograms first and if they show one coronary is blocked and the others not too bad, then he will have a stent inserted. However of the others are "dodgy" then they will stabilise him and do a bypass of all the blocked vessels in a planned procedure.
You are right Sqad - he had an angiogram and then the stents were put in place. He had been for an MRI scan this morning over to Barking on a bus and train and I think the scan upset him because of the nature of it. He has been having lots of problems lately with pains in his shoulders and arms - I am now thinking this is what it could have been, blocked arteries. He takes asprin and statins, so they obviously did nothing for him.
I didn't have time to be frightened, Jem, I think adrenaline kicks in and you swing into action.
I have been in a similar position with another neighbour, when she went into a diabetic coma - I had to get her on the floor, put her in the recovery position, trying to drip feed coca cola into her mouth, to bring her round until the ambulance arrived.
I don't think it is realistic to assume that aspirin and statins have not done your neighbour any good. He could be a lot worse off without them. His poor wife must have been beside herself, she has enough to cope with. I hope both of them get on ok.
