There is no legislation saying how many days you're allowed off sick. Each employer will have its own way of dealing with absences. If there are two occurrences totalling 16 days, and one is covered by a sick note, then it is unlikely that anything formal will happen unless your record in previous years was of concern

it's 1.5% worked out by how many days lost to sickness absence year to date, divided by how many days you work in a year then times the answer by 100, i know thw policy but it has only been introduced since april and never had to use it! with the 14 days i had off for my broken toe and now these 2 days it's working out at 8%, the fact that this is my first absence in 3 years with the company makes no never mind, i am still considered as having 'high' absence rate! good job i didn't break my leg just my toe!
Surely dealt wih on an individual basis though, dotty? - if you had a sick note for your toe, they can't argue with that.

gotta go to work now, can't get my head around how it's how many days off not how many times you are off. or even for why you are off, a broken bone is a broken bone for gawd sake.
We also have the return interview.

oh no they're not arguing it's just the way it works out on paper as a 'high' absence figure. nothing will happen but it's just annoying when some of the kids don't bother even ringing in when they've had a rough night out and can't get up to do their one 6 hour shift a week!
Well I am self employed now, so wouldn't even get SSP.
Oh boxy, what I mean is say you have Monday of this week phone in with upset tummy and then again three more times with the same thing in the same year, then on the forth time you won't get payed. Doctors note, well thats a different kettle of fish.
We have a return to work interview after just one day off too. I think our threshold is 9 days before you are called into an interview, the result of which being you can get a written warning.
At mine it is 3 occasions or 5 days whichever is first
