I am claiming JSA and doing a part time college course and I got told by my JCP that I will have to quit college if I get offered a full time job!!! but my college course is to get my qualifications I need to get into UNI so then I can train to be a midwife but no they are piss takers and are more bothered about me coming off the unemployment list than me actually wanting to do something with my life!! I am absolutely boiling at this and going to get advice from my student union!!! can they actually make me do something I don't want to do?????

They will let you continue your course, they just won't pay you for it.
to qualify for JSA you have to be actively seeking full time work don't you? If you are not actively seeking full time work, or are not available for full time work, you can't get JSA can you? When you "sign on" i'm sure you have to make a declaration as such

why is it that all the parents that are doing the course don't have a problem with continuing? not really fair is it??
I've already suggested that you look into distance learning. I've just googled it and lots of sites came up offering midwifery qualifications by distance learning. Therefore, get off the dole, get a full time job and study in your own time. Job done.
you can safely assume that "all the parents" doing the course aren't claiming Job Seeker's Allowance or, if they are, they'll soon be in the same boat as you.
I don't understand how anyone can possibly do midwifery (or nursing, come to that) by distance learning. You need placements, you need 50% of your learning time to be on the job with a mentor/supervisor. I know there are distance courses, but you still have to find the practical placements during the programmes.
Are the parents claiming benefits though? I would like a little job, term time only, preferably working from home, loosely based around education - should I claim JSA while I look - no. Why, because I am choosing lifestyle over the job.

so its okay for the tax payers to be paying for their housing, course tees and childcare?? its a joke
eh? What has that got to do with you, or this question even?
I think I understand your problem. The Job Centre will only pay you benefits if you are seriously going to take a job (such as doing the check-out in the Co-op) but you want to be a midwife and there is no way of funding this ? I feel sorry for you !

if you read the comments you will know why I put that
but you want us to pay for yours?
And you know his how? Yet you want the tax payers to pay for you to go to college to get qualifications for the job of your dreams, whilst others just slog on doing crappy jobs that they hate but not in a position to get qualifications for a better job?
Question Author
yes belindabee this is exactly my point!!
No difference, loulou - parents have paid into the system, the same rules apply to everyone. What qualifications are you studying at college? I'm familiar with the minimum entry requirements for nursing - are they much the same for midwifery?
I think you misunderstand belindabee.
Belindabee - you're right. I understand the frustration, but there is a way around it - and I've now mentioned it 3 times but loulou23 has dismissed the suggestion. I know its hard work working full time and studying part time but it can be done.
"they are piss takers"
or you are. One or the other.
I struggle to do links on my phone, but try this
http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore-by-career/midwifery/training-to-be-a-midwife/financial-support-for-students-on-pre-registration-midwifery-courses/

if it doesn't work, google "bursary midwifery" and it will tell you what you're entitled to.
