I am claiming JSA and doing a part time college course and I got told by my JCP that I will have to quit college if I get offered a full time job!!! but my college course is to get my qualifications I need to get into UNI so then I can train to be a midwife but no they are piss takers and are more bothered about me coming off the unemployment list than me actually wanting to do something with my life!! I am absolutely boiling at this and going to get advice from my student union!!! can they actually make me do something I don't want to do?????

eh? How can you expect to do a full time job AND a college course?
aren't there any night classes or distance learning courses you could do?
Question Author
I do want to work...but part time as I really want to go to college and uni
Question Author
no there is none for evenings or I would go to them instead and get a full time job
to answer you question, "they" can't make you give up college, but i would (hope) they can take your JSA away if you get offered a full time job and you turn it down
I suppose you will have to get a part time job that fits around our college course. It's not ideal, but you can't claim JSA if you are not actually 'job seeking'. Other people, who are not at college, would lose their JSA if they turned down a job.
Can you get a bursary for midwife training? You can for nursing.

this is what I am trying to say!! I told them I was going to college handed all the correct forms in everything sorted but now there not letting me do what I want to do by helping people give birth they would rather have me stacking shelves!! I would happily do a part time job around my 3 college days
what is it your studying at the moment? you say your studying to get into Uni so I assume it's something at A-Level standard. I'm sure there must be a compromise here somewhere - can you work full time and study part time instead of the other way around? Unfortunately for you, you can't really claim "Job Seekers" Allowance if you're not prepared to take a job that's offered to you, as clearly you're not seeking a job....

I am seeking part time jobs because of my college course. I am going to speak to the college union tomorrow to see if I can get some advice on what to do
Go to the student support office in your colleage - they must have come across this situation before, and there must be a way round it.
well do that then... i'm really not getting your point?
Then that is what you will have to do. You aren't job seeking so you can't claim job seekers allowance. I understand your annoyance but you will either have to get some sort of grant or a part time job.
Question Author
the course is called Access to a health profession BETEC Applied Science
Question Author
I just said im seeking a part time job therefore I am looking for a job!!!
Are you a mature student? If so, you will find it hard going to gain funding to get the qualifications to enter university but if that is what you really want to do then you will find a way (and it's BTEC).
How much more do you want from the tax payers ? JSA + college fees + ?
Question Author
19+ course and oh wow sorry for the mistake!
JSA is not designed to support people who are gaining qualifications and looking for a part time job (otherwise loads of people would be doing - people already in uni for example).
Question Author
oh wow do people not read properly or something??? I don't want anything from the JCP I only want them to let me continue my college course
