Do I have a potential problem?
I have received a phone call from a "Central Claims Dept." Inquiring about a road accident that they say I have been involved in.
When I pressed the caller for clarification of the accident details they were vague, but were certain of my personal details and the Reg. No. of my car.
The date of the alleged accident was late December 2010 or early January 2011. Unfortunately I allowed the call to terminate before I had asked for the callers details.
The puzzle is that I did not purchase the car until late February 2011, taking delivery in early March. Before I purchased the car I was aware that the garage had pre-registered the car on the 1st January 2011.
I have spoken to the garage and they have no knowledge of the vehicle being in any accident before I took delivery. I have not had any accidents since I have had the car or before .

Do I have a potential problem as I am not sure what to do next?

I keep getting texts regarding my whiplash claim.
I haven't got whiplash btw...or had an accident that may have caused whiplash.

These 'where there blame theres a claim' companies buy accident data from insurers and then hassle people into making injury claims they either dont warrant or justify...
Hence all insurance premiums are on the increase.
I would ignore it if I was you and refuse to answer their questions if they call again. They were on the news a week or so ago and sometimes really pester people into submitting a whiplash injury claim where no injury exists
Or no accident has happened!
I suspect it's a sprat to catch a mackerel ie they have obtained your details from some list or other, and are just trawling through hundreds in the hope of catching one. Don't touch it with a barge-pole (sorry about the mixed metaphors or whatever!).

I was getting these phone calls, an asian fella telling me about my accident that I didn't have, I asked him if he was based in the UK, "yes madam" he says, "well good cos I'm reporting you as I am registered with TPS" I said. Another asian fella came on the line, called me a mother effer a wished me luck doing that, my response was non too pleasant with a warning that they'll be effing deaf if they ring my number again as I'll burst a mugger alarm down it. Salad Bowls!
crash for cash scam....1st contact if it was legitimate would be by post...
unless someone else has given in your details in the belief that you caused damage to their car... some people do that.

i was walking to my car once and a man standing nearby starting screaming at me saying id hit his car...nothing to do with me, but because i was near he just decided it must be me and was saying he wanted my details etc... i refused and asked him to point out any damage on my car that corresponded with his... he couldn't... i also pointed out that his car was parked on a main shopping road and could have had any number of cars parked next to it over the course of even an hour or two....he eventually accepted it...but if i hadn't come back at that time i am sure he would have handed my details into his insurance.
We didn't have a car for about 3 years. Mr Alba kept getting texts about his accident injury, and funnily enough, he got another one this afternoon.
I did get this type a call and message to my mobile a lots!!! Once someone call me to ask about Payment protection Insurance on my mobile, the first question I ask him is how did he get my number. He said that he got my number from Data protection dept. I thought Data Protection supposed to protect our details as the word 'protection' stand for. I refuse to answer his question and ask him not to contact me.

Sometime it is best to get the caller details and his company details for you to check to see whether they are bogus!
Hi David

I would not worry too much as you did not own the car at the time of the alledged accident.
Oddly enough my granddaughter got a letter about a speeding offence which happened in a car she was supposed to own.
At the time she was 6 months old.

Amy
No worry! I get calls like that. One claimed, in a text message, that I was entitled to £5,100 as a result of my accident. What amused me was not that I had not had any accident but that someone could give an amount for the damages, down to £100, without knowing anything about my 'injuries' or loss of earnings or any other factor in a claim.
Your caller was taking a guess on limited information he had. Every now and again he'll strike lucky and find someone who has a claim, false or otherwise, to make.
Hi Amy

Did the police come to arrest your granddaughter for non payment of the speeding fine? lol.
