my sister is in spain at the moment looking aafter our sick mother,her passport expires in aug 2008,has my sister got to come bak to the uk to renew it,or can she do it from spain!!!

get the forms
print them off
and post them to spain

yes thank you, i will tell her about both ways to renew it...also she has been in spain with our mom since december,is there a time limit before she has to come back!!!

You can probably do the computer part of it on her behalf and then post the paperwork to her for her signature and pictures. When I renewed mine online, I got the new one in three days after sending them the pictures.

Also, she's in the EC, so there are no time limits on her stay.

Unfortunately, the Identity and Passport Service do not deal with passport applications from abroad. One of the statements you have to swear on the passport forms (including the one on-line) is that you are in the UK at the time of signing.

Instead, she needs to apply via the British Consulate in Madrid. The only problem I can foresee is that she may not be able to find anyone out there to countersign her photo, but if she gives them a call, they should be able to advise her what to do in her circumstances.
