mine isnt cos its electric so i switch it on to run the water and its heated up by electricity as its needed , also fitted with its own temp control so i can adjust the temp of the water, hope this helps.
mine's a mixer shower so is connected to my combi boiler heating system

depends what sort you have.

No.
It will be connected to your boiler which heats up both your central heating (radiators) and your hot water but they are on different systems.

So your radiators may not work but your shower would still work, unless the ignition isn't working then neither would heat up (assuming you have a combi boiler, an immersion system, I think, would still work as the rads and hot water are heated by different sources).

The water in your radiators will probably have chemicals in to stop it getting all gunked up and definitely wouldn't get you clean!
.
yeah i meant connected to the boiler, not the heating system as such. obviously you wouldn't want to shower in radiator water!
A "power shower" or "instant showert" heats its own water as you use it.

Any other shower attachment is effectively a hot water tap with a rose fitting.
