I am clearing out my house and have been advised that our local recycling centre is not able to take my fridge as they can explode - would that also include a freezer?

The local recycling centre went **boom** the other day and there was one death and one seriously injured person. This is their third exploding fridge.

I think that they are closed just now
We have a collection service round here which, for £32, will take up to six large items including fridges, freezers, etc. Might be worth finding out if there’s something like that near you.

There is a suspension on taking Fridges at the recycling centre

I just wondered if freezers had the same exploding bits as fridges.
Compressor and refrigerant gas under pressure, so freezer much the same , that’s my guess
As ACF says, the way that fridges and freezers work is basically the same.

So their components will be much the same too.

If you're purchasing a new fridge or freezer, the retailer that you buy from is legally obliged to provide a facily to enable you to recycle your old one:

You could try leaving it outside your house with a notice on it saying it’s free? I’ve done that in the past.
Try asking your local authority. They might take it, free of charge.
your local Curry's might take it
Possibly more joy with Selfridges.
If recyling centres won't take fridges and the suppliers of new ones won't take away old ones, this will undoubtedly mean people will be dumping them behind the hedgerows, in the river, etc.
