A planning application has been made, no decision has yet been made. If the developer decides not to proceed does he have to notify the council and is it recorded on the application documents?

I suppose it would be polite not to waste the planning department's time. Any special reason for not telling them?

It's not me. Aldi put in an application 30 months ago, people are still lodging their objections/support but nothing from Aldi for a long time.
Six months ago they applied to the same council to open a new store about 3 miles away and that has just been approved, so I was wondering if they'd given up on the one in my locality
You can check on the status of a planning application on your councils' website, probably under Building and Planning. If it has been withdrawn, it will say so. If it hasn't, it will probably say decision pending, but they will only inform the applicant directly when a decision has been made. You will have to keep checking the website using the planning application number.

I do check, 10C, that is how I know people are still submitting support/objections.

I was wondering if Aldi had dropped the idea and not bothered to officially withdraw the application. Does that ever happen?
Are you for or against?
Would you rather have Waitrose?

We have 3 Aldis and two Lidls within a five mile radius, another Aldi coming soon 3 miles away. We also have two large Asda, a giant Tesco, a Co-Op, a large Morrisons.
B&M, 2 Iceland and a few of those other budget food stores I've never been in.

I think we have more than enough flipping supermarkets, and we are drowning in barbers, hairdressers and nail bars.

What are Aldi applying for? They won't need permission to exist as Aldi. Is it an empty site where they want permission to use the land for retail and to build a shop? Or is it simply to redo the premises and change the signage?

They want to build a new store and car park partly on land that is currently a small chemist extending on to part of a park.
Sorry for the late reply Barry. You should be able to phone the council and speak to the planning officer who is dealing with this application. I'm assuming that you have been informed in writing by the council because your properety might be affected by the application?

If you phone, the officer will tell you if the application is still ongoing, or if there has been a withdrawal pending ammendments, which will be followed by a re-sub mission, or whether or not the application has been withdrawn altogether. If you have been informed in writing, the officers' contact details should be in there.

I have had cause to be involved in certain planning applications recently and I found the planning officer very amenable and helpful.

They can only say no.
