What do people think gives them the right to rip out their windows and replace them with ugly, incongruous, cheap-looking plastic ones?

woofgang (don't know what happened there, I didn't even press the submit button.

However, the suggestion of no more painting & of a hardwood surround, sounds more inviting. If we do end up going for UPVC replacement frames, we will still keep our white painted inner wooden sills.

smudge. we are very pleased with ours, we had Anglian, the admin was appalling (we gave them six weeks notice of the required fitting date and were assured that this was ample, but they "lost the paperwork" and the day before they were due to come phoned us and said that NONE of the windows had been made...long messy story...) but the fitters were excellent, clean, tidy and made a really good job. The hardwood surrounds make the windows look more "real". We have teak finish hardwood windowsill indoors and out, but you can paint the wood instead of varnishing it. we get the outside wood refinished with sadolin about every 5 years and they have kept their looks beautifully

Thank you woofgang - I have to say that some UPVC windows do look good, but I suppose our reluctance is only due to the fact that we like wood. We shall give it a bit more consideration, but expect we'll end up giving in.

Thanks again. :0)
