I have a silver birch tree in my driveway and if i leave the car parked under it for any length of time it gets covered in gluey sappy stuff. What i need to know is will this do my cars paintwork any harm and if so, can i chop the tree down without being sent to Barlinnie????? Thanx in advance.

I have no way of knowing if there is a tree preservation order on it. Check with your local council - they will be able to tell you.
glesga - Other than that, all you can do is cover the car up with a protective sheet.
Hi glesgal,
It's not directly a fault of the tree but rather the aphid the suck on the sap from the leaves and the resulting goo (honeydew) is what comes out of the back end of the aphid.
This is only likely to be a short term problem during the summer.
If you keep your car well waxed it will be much easier to remove. Good luck Tbird+
