Looking for some ideas to hide the knot holes in my garden fence, which has a public alleyway on the other side, the holes are to big to use ordinary wood filler, as it would fall straight through, so any ideas would be appreciated.

I think I'd find some plywood offcut in one of the DIY stores, then cut small squares and stick them over the holes with something like 'Sticks Like ***' (or whatever they call it nowadays.) Maybe a 'No Nails' product, or an external wood glue. In any case, something that sticks immediately.
The Bondloc might be fiddly to apply, as it would ideally require a hand round the back of the hole to help. Check it out, fruit, and see what you think.
Put some tape on the back of the knot hole and then use the wood epoxy filler, leave it around an hour and then remove the tape.
If you can reach round the back! I uppose if it's got a public alley outside then it should be no problem. TonyAV's solution sounds easy enough if you get some good sticky tape. I'd not bother removing it afterwards.
Actually the pubic alleyway makes it easier as you can walk along and tape over the holes before filling. Not always the case when the fence backs onto neighbours or an inaccessible area.
