i have a boxer puppy that has ruined my lawn with urine & digging holes etc.. i'm planning to get rid of the grass but am unsure how to do this. Can anyone advise me of a lawn killer that is not harmful to pets?

You will need to remove the lawn using a shovel (sliding under the turf) - see fig 1 on link - or using a special machine (that you can hire).  There are plant/weed killers out there, but given that most domestic pets eat grass, I wouldn't use it.
