Morning

Our cat peed on the carpet. It didn't originally smell but since I cleaned it with soapy water it has started smelling. Any tips for getting rid of the smell and what to do if it happens again? Thanks!

Lemon juice (but check it doesn't mark the carpet first - try on a small, unnoticable area or off cut) or carpet shampoo. There is a good carpet spray (can't for the life of me remember the name) for carpets and upholstery. You spray it on and it foams up. Check your supermarket.

For future problems - lemon juice is very good, but again, check it won't mark. Clean the area with hot soapy water, then sprinkle lemon juice on.

If it's a re-accuring problem, try using a citrus scented cleaner (cats hate citrus) or if possible, put your cat's food bowl in the area they keep peeing on. Cats will not mess were they eat. This isn't really feasible if it's in the middle of the louge though!
The underlay smells when wet. We had a hidden leak from one of our radiators which had the same affect until I found and fixed it.
You can smell the bacteria, you'll need to use something like dettox spray to kill the bacteria.
There was a tip on "HOW CLEAN IS YOUR HOUSE", they used bicarb & tea tree oil, There is a product called "WHOOPS!" by Xanto, its a 2 in 1 foam spray, i got mine at Savers.  Good Luck.   :-)
