Saw these being 'prepared' (a.k.a killed) in Tunisia ... but this is in fact from an old British recipe book.

For the more 'adventurous' cooks among us, I think

Starling Recipe

Starlings (allow 1 per person)
Chopped & peeled tomatoes
Clove of garlic
Olives
Fat or butter
An onion
Bacon (or oiled paper)
Seasoning

Hang the birds from 3 to 6 days.

Prepare and gut them.

Brown them in butter or fat.

Add tomatoes, onion, garlic, seasoning and olives.

Wrap the birds in bacon or oiled paper and cook until tender.

Question Author
very cute, my Dad had those too.
Yes Naz, they are lovely, that's why I would never cinsider them as a meal........
how do you catch starlings ?
Get one of those dog cage, put some food inside. When they go in to eat, qickly close the door to the cage.
I honestly couldn't eat a bird that I've seen roaming around our streets and dustbins. There is something quite grotty about a pidgeon pie to me. Nor could I eat duck. My late father in law was a Hay cutter he used to go to farms with his horse and cart and cut hay for the farmers. One day he was taken short and had to 'go' in the middle of the hayfield, no sooner had he 'been' than a duck wandered up and ate it! Yeeuuk. So none of the family will ever eat duck.
with great difficulty I hope Jay...............

Gran, hope you don't like Cod, lol ;-)
I was told that shrimps and crabs cleans the ocean by eating all the waste that's in it.

I think most anything you eat from a sea or river will be of the scavenger mentality.

Sometimes it's best not to dwell on it ... just shallow fry for a couple o' minutes and enjoy.

be an interesting thread though .. "What would you eat/not eat and why?"
I'm not keen on cod, rather have haddock or plaice. Regrettably I love crabs and prawns and I try not to think about what they do.
Question Author
I remember being shocked when I worked in Wakefield and could only buy Haddock in the chippie. Apparently they can't sell it because of it's scavenger habit.
Question Author
Can't sell Cod, that is.
There you go Naz, start one. We could congregate there and enjoy fellowship. :-)
I heard that blue fish is the worst of the lot..
Cannot cope with most seafood Naz, my friend loves mussels, they smell delicious! but I just cannot get them into my mouth!.....wish I could just try them!.........but I can't bear the thought!............
Question Author
