I tried one for the very first time last weekend, after much persuasion! - was told not to chew it but just swallow it whole. Was a bit odd but ok. But whats the logic in eating something that you havent even chewed to taste it?

There are 3 different schools of thought;
1. Straight down, no chewing.
2. One quick chew, then swallow.
3. Chomp it up like you would with any other foodstuff.

All have their champions and those champions have their reasons....

aren't they supposed to get you in the mood for nudge nudge wink wink?
(can't spell aphrodisiac)

Maybe they are supposed to leave a nicer after-taste than if they were chewed?

Anyone remember the one about the guy who ate 10 oysters and only 8 of them worked?

Lol, you lot are just making me giggle!
I always chew them, and always have them with lemon, salty to the point of bitterness without lemon.

They were a lot bigger than I thought (stop it Tony!) lol
Smow, did the oyster stay down and why only one? x

I agree , I have often thought it could be replicated by using cold stodgy porridge covered in salty water and served on a tuna tin lid..
Question Author
Well the guy selling them had a huge tank full of them, and you bought 3, each one a different sort apparently. Mr Smow was going to have all 3 but persuaded me to have one. Think the toffee vodka and raspberry sambuca beforehand gave me dutch courage! and yes it stayed down - just.
aha, so it was that day was it?
I blame the toffee vodka :-)

How on earth can you get different types of oysters?
I used to eat raw oysters but had a bad reaction to one about 20 years ago and can't take them anymore. OK cooked though.
Vile things How can they be labelled as an aphrodisiac when they make you want to puke just looking at them???
