Apart from curries and bombay potatoes, what kind of recipes can I add one or more of the above to to give it a bit more flavour? I heard nutmeg goes well with cheese, does it in your opinion?

Nutmeg is good on top of rice pudding.
Question Author
I might try that, I always find rice puding boring (we hardly ever have jam, to be able to add to it) so I might make some soon, thanks.
Nutmeg is good in moussaka, or I add a whole one to stews and casseroles (red meat).

Cumin and Turmeric are good in dhals.
If you've got some cayenne or paprika then you could make a vegetable tagine.

Nutmeg goes well with spinach too.
I too use it in spinach...if you have leftover chopped spinach, and left over risotto....mix the two together with a touch of nutmeg, shape into balls, tuck a bit of mozzarella in the middle and seal.....flour lightly-then fry til golden...serve with a tomato sauce.
I love arancini - and always make too much risotto so that I can make them the next day!
I add nutmeg to scrambled egg and to mashed sweede. Not too much though as it's pretty strong.

I add cumin to roasted carrots and i also put cumin seeds into rice (along with whole cloves, cardamon pods and star annise) for a nice pilau rice.

hhmmm sounds delicious.

Can you freeze spinach without it losing too much taste and texture, seeing as i'm the only one in the house that eats it!
Filthy foreign muck! Wouldn't have any of it about the house. Vinegar for the chips, brown sauce, salt and pepper, what more could one need?
Definitely you can freeze spinach, I tend to buy it that way, otherwise it goes off before we've eaten it all.

Thanks boxtops, so many things lose texture or taste in the freezer that i wanted to make sure.

yes.....yes.......YES!!!!

;-)
I use turmeric to add some colour to rice, add some nice veg like onion, pepper, courgette and mushroom and some stock and other seasoning and you can make a lovely mediterraean style rice to go with all kinds of things or to stuff peppers with.
I always add a few grates of nutmeg to my rock cakes - gives a depth of flavour ordinary mixed spice alone does not provide.

hhmmm I msut try these recipes they sound delicious.

helen I can't have done it wrong if i've never done it. Mum and dad don't like spinach so we never buy it hence i've never frozen it to see if it goes bad in someway like some foods do, how was i to know.
