would this be too sickly and sweet if made with good quality milk chocolate instead of plain?

oooh no, sounds like heaven to me :)
I'm actually making some Rocky road bars this afternoon to take down to my OH next Tuesday.

I've got mini mallows, rice crispies, sultanas, chopped mars, snickers and topics, maltesers, broken up cookies, and I'm going to buy some Thorntons Alpini bars when I get to town. I'll buy some good quality milk choc to cover all the ingredients.
oh NoM, that sounds delish, i just love rocky road, yours sounds like the pinnacle of rocky roads. did you invent yours yourself or follow a recipe?
NoM why would you want to put something as decent as thorntons chocolate in with all that other stuff?
...to add the luxury touch, I would guess, molly!
NoM if you're making a good quality rocky road wouldn't it be nicer to have all the ingredients being the best possible?

Sorry for ignoring you bloomwood, you can use milk chocolate, my friend who doesn't like dark chocky makes delicious RR with milk chocolate.
Yes, but not everyone can afford all the best brands for all the stuff you have to put in a good Rocky Road.
ethandron, I have a recipe from the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook, but I've modified it to include my faves such as topics and Alpini (swiss praline) bars.

thanks for all your comments.NoM they sound fab might put some of those little extras in,am just trying to do something a bit different for a friend's bday party.
Well I couldn't get any Alpini bars in Tesco, so I substituted with Daim bars.

I've made the mixture and it's now setting. It does look fab. :-)
