I'm looking into going to france for a couple of hours in a few weeks to stock up on supplies for christmas (personal use only!) and wondered if anyone that had any experience of this would recommend taking the car or would it be better to go as a foot passenger ie if there were cheap shops within walking distance of getting off the other end? Any suggestions regarding this, hubby and I are also taking the kids, oldest being 4, would be gratfully recieved, Kate

Take the car... no places within walking distance you will need to drive. Don't buy on the boat as more expensive. Go to Eastenders which is one of the most poplar, its just outside of the Calais port, not far to drive.
Take the car : Cite europe has Tesco's for drink, and a French ( possibly Carrefour ) you can check out the Tesco's prices on line ... did not find Majestic/and the others there, that much cheaper.

Thanks for the advice, will certainly take the car. How is it to drive in france - apart from on the opposite side!- and are these places signed or should i try and get a map beforehand?
If you get the train it is not far to cite europe at all ,all sign posted. The locals are used to lots of Brits cruising the area so are either really cool ( or a bit pi$sed off ) with "les etrangers".
