If you were making a ploughman’s lunch at home, what would you personally put in it? I know they vary from pub to pub, I’m looking for ideas for doing one myself that’s maybe a bit different, tasty but not too much of a faff.
Thanks.
Ooh Volty that sounds loverly.
Hmm, food for thought, thanks everyone, you’ve focused my mind and reminded me of things I’d forgotten.
Really nice butter and very fresh bread, yum, a good basis.
bit late to this one but for me a ploughmans would be lovely fresh bread/butter, cheese - a nice sharp cheddar/hard goats or sheep, decent q ham, onion marmalade and some salad.
I'd be more likely to have more cured meats, salami's/olives/artichokes etc but then its less of a ploughmans
Proper Ploughmans, Bread, butter, cheese, pickle, onion or pickled onions, everything of the best possible quality....maybe a tomato. Anything else may be delicious but its not a Ploughman’s
Isn't cheese, chutney, crusty bread and an apple the main ingredients? I would do three types of UK Cheese, a 'Tiger' loaf cut into chunks, some chutney, some mini cornish pasties and a nice sweet apple cut into quarters on the side.
So... Ive bought Red Leicester, cheddar, and Stilton, all fancy pants extra special. A couple of Melton Mowbray pork pies, some large vine tomatoes, garners pickled onions, piccalilli, butter with Cornish sea salt, thick sliced gammon, celery, cucumber to cut into sticks, spring onions, and bake at home bread. Oh yes, and two scotch eggs..have never had them but saw a programme about how they’re made so thought I’d give them a go.
Thanks everyone, much appreciated.
I bet homemade will be totally different to these, much nicer. I’m approaching them with an open mind as they don’t really appeal. You’ll have to let us know they turn out :)
