If you were making a ploughman’s lunch at home, what would you personally put in it? I know they vary from pub to pub, I’m looking for ideas for doing one myself that’s maybe a bit different, tasty but not too much of a faff.
Thanks.

Ham, cheese (good cheddar or red Leicester) pork pie, pickle, pickle onions, fresh tomato, chunky white bread butter and coleslaw
Oh brobabky crusty rustic bread, butter, and Cheddar cheese. Perhaps some relish. Avoid pet food like the plague.

If you want something different, cover it with mustard ice cream, and chocolate, with a sprinkling of icing sugar.
Cheese, ham, porkpie, salad, crusty bread, tomato and spring onion. No cutney.
I haven't seen one of those since I was working in a pub when I was 17. Maybe ciabatta instead of crusty bread, goats cheese instead of cheddar, salami, parma ham, olives, cherry tomatoes and Indian pickle
PROBABLY !!!!!!!!!!!!
local crusty bread, local cheese, local toms and onions, local pie perhaps......farm shop chutney and pickles....some farm shop salads and make your own dressing....
That wouldn't be a ploughmans lunch 237...

Cheese, ham, pickle, onion relish, pork pie, crusty bed and some pet food :-)
Sicilian shepherds have to eat too.
^ I know ummmm but ethandron was looking for a variation
All very similar at the moment, Eth.

Pet food...would that be dry kibble or tinned? ;)
//// ummmm: ... crusty bed ...////

Sounds vaguely distasteful - PMSL ;-)
Whatever's in the fridge, and mustard.
Question Author
Indeed Tilly, maybe traditional is the way to go.
Anyone put pate in theirs?
shades of Tracey Emin perhaps, Canary......
I had this the other day in a local country pub.
The Ultimate Ploughman’s

Hand-carved gammon, a sausage roll and wedges of Stilton and Cheddar cheese served with pickled onion chutney, homemade coleslaw, pickled onion, apple, a salad garnish and a cottage loaf with butter.
And lovely it was too.

Question Author
That’ll be a strawberry yogurt and a custard slice with mustard then mamy...
TBH Ethandron you can use whatever you want, we often use up odds and *** on it.
Oh yes, pate would be nice.
Canary...I was hoping no one would notice :-)

Eth - I'd put pate with it
