Hi, a few years ago we bought a couple of bottles of champagne for an engagement, they were around £36 a bottle in a pub and all i can remember is that they had JB on the cork. Does anyone know what brand of champagne this might be?

Thanks

Alison

(Jacques) Bollinger
Don't recognise that mark Alison, but I can recommend Tesco's own Premier Cru champagne - it has come out top on blind tastings, I frequently buy it for our champagne and cottage pie parties (don't ask!) It usually costs under £20 - well it did the last time I bought some, lately I've found a really nice Prosecco at Sainsbury's Conegliano Prosecco Superiore (2009) Brut which is also very nice. I don't profess to be a wine expert but these wines I have really enjoyed

Thanks for your answers, it may have been the bollinger, they are getting married in a few weeks and she said she really enjoyed that champagne so thought it would be nice to get the same one for them but couldnt think what it was.

Is Don Perignon as good as the price suggests?
Whilst you're on the subject......I muchprefer a demisec to a brut, any recommendations?
Yes, Dom Perignon is definitely as good as the price suggests!
Agreed, but I'd prefer a Lanson Noble Cuvée Brut ;-)
I like Louis Roederer myself. The Dom Perignon was good though. Everyone should have one bottle of that in their life. Maybe I enjoyed it more because I didn`t pay for it ;-) A man paid for it and the funny thing was, I have absolutely no idea who he was.
best I've ever had was Louis Roederer
Partial to a bottle of the widow myself, but like I posted earlier the tesco premier cru is really good
My cousin married an extremely rich stockbroker and they ensured that guests were greeted at the reception with a glass of Louis Roederer Cristal. (It is, indeed, an excellent Champagne house). However they made the mistake of using a cheaper Champagne for the toasts, proving what a cheapskate the guy really was. (Some of us can tell the difference!). My cousin later had the good sense to divorce him.
Heidsieck Monopole Silver Top currently my favourite - ideally the 2002, but the NV is pretty good too.
As Nungate suggests, 'the widow's wine' is rather nice too. (For the uninitiated, that's Veuve Clicquot)
Ah thanks chuck, I didn't know that and I love Veuve Clicquot
A biker who likes Neil Young and Veuve Cliquot ... <swoon>
Not a 1995 Blanc des Millénaires (from Charles Heidseck) then, Dave?
(OK, I admit that I've not tasted it but it's reckoned to be really good).

The problem here is, of course, that it comes down to personal taste. Among the cheaper (but far from 'cheapo') NV Champagnes, I love Lanson Black Label (with its wonderful crisp, dry, flavour) but many other people prefer something a little sweeter.
Lanson Black is very reliable too Chris - a lot of the NVs can wobble around from year to year as the blend is tinkered with, but Lanson seem to have got it right.
I still have the champagne tastes just not the income to support it! Tesco for me or a nice Cava or a Prosecco. I believe there are some really excellent English Sparkling wines about as well - just haven't seen any around here any recommendations?
I agree with you nungate, if I had the funds champagne would be my choice, As it is birthdays, anniversaries, xmas and any other excuse I can come up with
sad innit Sibton

What happened to the Schnauzer I loved him/her?
