Booking a holiday a few days ago, I was made to feel positively ancient by the young woman in the travel agents. She asked me if I wanted travel insurance with 'them'. I declined saying I buy mine yearly it works out cheaper now my wife and myself are over 75. 'Oh, I'm surprised you still want to go on holiday at your age' she said to me smiling. I only wished she'd said that to me BEFORE she took my credit card to pay for the flights.

I hope I'm still holidaying at 75. Meanwhile, feel free to politely educate young flibbertigibbets at travel agencies.
Yes you should be in the rocking chair knitting cardigans and watching daytime TV.
What are you thinking of?!?
What a nerve-perhaps her bosses need reminding of the new discrimination act so that they can brief their staff.

I'm 79 JNO - still quite active - I have arthritis in my left knee, but apart from that god has been good to me - my doctor said I have the body of a tired teenager! I've never smoked, I do like the odd glass of vino or half of bitter, i've eaten my own farmed beef, pork lamb and chicken and I eat only butter (never marg) and I have cream and cheese, bacon and sausages and loads of fresh veg and fruit. My darling wife and I do a lot of walking here in Devon, and when the weather's warm enough, I go swimming in the sea at Woolacombe
Ahhh, but you claim you're "over 75", how much over 75 are you?
oh, you're above answer wasn't there ^
About 4 years, at a guess, B00 :-p

even when I was a full time farmer I never wore jeans - don't know why I always preferred cords. Trainers? - No you quickly learn on a farm, steel topcaps are the thing!!

i meant toe caps of course - have a ton of beef stand on your toes and you know about it!!
you could always drop them a wee note about improving their service and the awareness of the discrimination act.....
"How old is too old"?
My answer - never.
No one should EVER be made to feel like thay are too old for anything IMO, and I really do mean *anything*.
Do what you want when you want and don't let the b*****ds grind you down !

grinding to ragga. excellent :)
could go and have rampant sex in the tourist office and give us all a thrill reading about it in the Mail.....?
My annual travel insurance went through the roof the day i passed 65 - so much so that I decided to opt for single-trip instead. Some companies just said no (to annual) without checking to see whether there were any health problems.
The thing here is purception of the young of 'old' when I was young old people seemed old and they weren't 'with it'. But now I'm old i can see that it is not whether you are old but how you enjoy your life. So you are never TOO old but you may be resticted by other things like health or fear issues. It depends on your life skills and luck to a degree. Have a wonderful holiday.
Don't take it personally. She probably knows a few folk who are younger than you and decrepit.
She meant she hopes she's as fit and active as you are at that age.
I would have asked her "Did you ever sort out the refund you were owed?"

She would then look blank and ask you "What refund?"

Your reply would be "From the school of charm, tact & diplomacy"
