Can You Freeze Spam?

The tinned kind, that is - not the dodgy elecronic stuff.

I'm checking through my small 'emergency' stock of food in the garage (power cuts, snowed in etc..) and this tin has passed its use by date so needs eating.

However, much though we used to wolf the stuff as teenagers (it was a real treat in the 50s) half a large tin will be ample for the pair of us (grilled) nowadays - hence my question.

I can't see why not, but does anybody know, please?

Yes you can freeze anything, I don't know what it'll be like when it thaws out mind.

I've frozen tinned corned beef and it's been fine. I expect spam would be the same.

I'd be more concerned about food stored in a garage...don't you get extremes of temperature? My garage gets into the high 30s in Summer - quite unsuitable for storing any sort of food.

Thanks Pasta, I'll giveit a go - nothing to lose after all.

Gingejbee, it is tinned. We store all sorts of food in our garage, spuds, carrots etc. - I don't think it gets that hot in there.  Good thought though.

Chuck it out

.... or just eat it now?

Yes, you can freeze Spam after it has been opened. It is recommended to remove the Spam from the can and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil before freezing to prevent freezer burn. Spam can be stored in the freezer for up to two months. However, it is important to note that the texture of the Spam may change slightly after freezing and thawing, so it may not be as firm as before.

It's tinned. It's probably fine without freezing.

I used to love spam especially the battered kind at school 😋. However, I don't know if it can be frozen.

yes. we slice it into thin or thick slices, keeping them separate using greaseproof paper, then into a plastic box with tight fitting lid, and into the freezer.  that way you can take out one or more slices when required.  Personally, I don't like it, hence the freezing (for the meat eaters).

spam fritters are in the supermarkets.

What a great response, thank you all.

Dinner was surprisingly good! We both really enjoyed it.

Check in 'Body & Soul' tomorow, perhaps.  (The tin wasn't blown.)
