I'm going to one tomorrow.

Not going to post the reasons and whereby's, just thought I'd let you know that an ab'er has reached that level, and before the pompous, righteous brigade get on their high horses, there are free areas of access to the internet.

Albs...will you be okay when that food has gone?
Alba, I have a relative who volunteers in a Food Bank. She does the meeting and greeting and makes the tea. The people who volunteer there also take in a couple of loaves of bread each and slip a loaf into the bags . They are not supposed to hand out 'fresh' produce.

Tins of tuna seem to be a staple, as do tins of minced beef and stewed steak.
That's more than i expected, actually. Keep your sense of humour, albs. Things will turn round soon xx
If the beans are a problem see Cupid....she's the windy expert.....☺

should be Ummm, roll on Tuesday.

Tilly, yes, perishables aren't done, some of the volunteers are wonderful, I saw one give a tin of dog food for the guy's pet.

Gness, next time I see Cupes, I'll ask her :-D
alba sorry to hear that. wish i could help you in a positive way. thinking of you and yours and hope it all goes well. beggur that you are so far away.

ran out of money and then when topped up ran out of signal.
I so wish you lived closer Alba......I've just got home to find my freezer has died!

I'm not sure the two of us will be able to get through the 1kg catering pack of bacon for breakfast tomorrow........not to mention the other stuff lurking in there :-(
eccles my freezer died before Christmas eve. turned the fridge as cold as I could and then tried to give away. no one wanted it. animals feed well.
Alba, thank you for the information. You have probably done a lot of good by posting this and I reckon more people will now be contributing when we see one of our own suffering. Much love and thinking of you. I hope things improve soon xxx
So good to hear that you had a positive experience. Let's hope your situation sorts itself out soon.
Food banks are totally reliant on what they are given. So if ABers want to see folks like alba and her family get better quality food...donate it! Also, the reason the bags are prepacked is that if given a choice of items
!!!!...Grrrr
...if clients were given a choice of items, certain foods would be grabbed up. There needs to be equality in that everyone gets the same on any given day.
Alba, think you know my views on food banks (all good, in case of any doubt), when will you be able to visit again (if you need to). So sorry you are in this position, when we were on our uppers we were told to visit the police station and ask for help :(

Wish I could help in some way, I am hideously easy to find on FB if you would like to chat, xxx

Question Author
sher, would love to chat, but I can't get to grips with FB!
I don't think it likes me too much :-) (or maybe the other way round)

Anyhoo, I'd just to like each and every one of you for your concern, kind wishes and compassion, it means more than words can ever say

We'll get there, eventually.

I wish each of you the very best that life brings, thank you again xxxxxxx
Alba - I'm going to donate tomorrow
You won't get it but it's for you x
Question Author
Ric, thank you, xx

I get benefit money on Tuesday, local foodbank opens on Wednesday, am going to pop in a couple of dog foods for them to give to those who have pooches.
You're positivity is to be admired and should be an inspiration to others Alba.

So glad you didn't get the Ready, Steady Cook bag from hell ;-)
Question Author
chicken casserole tonight, Eccles, on a bed of rice, will see if I can add a dash of curry powder :-)

I simply refuse to let the burgers get me down, they don't have a big enough stick, they should see the size of mine :-D
Alba, your post has woken me up to people who need a little bit of help to tide them over when food is much needed when things get tough!!!
I will look into food banks and will donate a tin or two of stuff that I know will fill a few bellys. All the best alba x
Through this post alba, I think you have caused more to be put into the kitty than you have taken out:-)
I've been looking at our local food banks. There is one less than 5 min walk from where I live.

It's not just food. Looking at their list of needed items it's also things like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant etc.

Albs...I think you've done the foodbanks a great service with your honesty x
