I'm going to one tomorrow.

Not going to post the reasons and whereby's, just thought I'd let you know that an ab'er has reached that level, and before the pompous, righteous brigade get on their high horses, there are free areas of access to the internet.

Alba, I hope you are ok. There is no shame in accepting help, needs must when the devil drives (and all that malarkey). Let us know how you get on (and what you get), xxx
I haven't got much alba but I can help you out with a few quid if that helps... Minty has my e-mail... Hope it goes OK tomorrow xxx
I'm sure it's only a temporary blip and as you say,"It's a hand up, not a hand out".
Best wishes, G.
We had a collection point at a school I was working at, which I thought was a nice idea. The trouble is the only things in there were about 30 crisps and a few things such as a packet of stuffing. Hopefully they'll have some fresh and tinned stuff for you.
I think you can only use them for a short time so I hope there's some other help available for you if you need it
sorry albs, xx i'll share my sausage rolls with you any day x

I'd like to thank each of you for your cheery replies. Means a lot

Alba, I have used a food bank, now I am in a position to make small contributions. You are one of the world's lovely people and I hope you are able to manage . Great big hugs from me xxxx
Sorry to hear you have reached a state where you find it necessary. I still think it means the system has failed though. No one ought find themselves in a state where they feel they have to go to a food bank. From the off the coutry's welfare system should cover the needs of its citizens.

flumpy xx :-) Lovely to see you x!!

I have contributed in the past, tinned stuff mainly,

Dunno what to expect tomorrow, but will let you all know how it goes and what is most gratefully received, and will no doubt be posting to ask for recipe suggestions :-)
Very sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope that you are treated with empathy and kindness. I know it must be a very difficult thing to do. We must all be grateful that help is available.

Hope everything get back to normal for you soon.
Only just seen this - and am so upset for you - for someone so cheerful & resourceful to be in this position is heartbreaking.

I wish there was something I could do - just feel powerless - but you have my email.

Dave xx

albs - big hug - well done to you for letting us know about it, we wish you well. Let us know how you get on.
All the best, good luck
may i wish you better luck for the future
Sorry to hear that Alba, and like others have said, hope this is just a temporary blip and that you'll be back on your feet soon x
I worked for the Benefits Agency for until I was 40 in 2003 (24 years and 33 days - as per my superannuation calculation) and saw people from all walks of life who lost their jobs/health/partner etc. Most of them were just like us (scary thought) and fought to get back on track.

People hear about all the people screwing the benefits system or having 13 kids to 13 fathers and all the scaremongering. These are in the minority.

Take the help that you can get, don't feel bad about it and try and keep your sense of humour. If all else fails sell your relatives on ebay.
It's a case of "There but for the grace of God go I". I also know of folk at a desperation level ie heat or eat.
