i sent a sum of money last wednesday online to a friends bank account, and she still hasn´t received it, why the delay?
It is my first online transaction, will the bank not transfer the money until they´ve made that telephone call they promised me?

You don't give much information...

1) Which bank are you with?
2) Which bank is the recipient with?
3) Does your online banking not have a payment tracker, or something similar? If it does, what does it say about this transaction?
4) Does your online banking have a threshold below which transfers are made instantly and above which transfers can take considerably longer? If so, was the amount of the transfer above said limit?
First thing I would do is double-check the account number. I'm with 1st Direct and it can take up to four working days. If you sent it on Wednesday then Monday will be your 4th day.
Should have also added if you are both with the same bank/BS it should be instantaneous.
It still takes clearing time - 4 to 5 business days.

In the States, if you transfer, you transfer immediately being a check or wire instruction, but then they charge you for account management (though I find it far better than over here where the banks screw up - I found out one of them, Lloyds, had no ISO 9000 quality control systems in place and I believe RBS hasnt either).

However, back to the point, they use yourmoney on the overnight and short term markets where they can get %s way above the interbank rates, so its all about cashflow management so they use ours.

Should see it Tuesday or Wednesday morning on her account.
I took the OP's "last Wednesday" to be 18th, ladybirder, as opposed to 25th which I would have imagined to be "this Wednesday"...
give them a call, most are open 24 hours and can update you and informon the transfer....
Oh dear MR. We'll have to wait for the OP to clarify I suppose.

I´m with the halifax, i sent the money to barclays , it wasn´t a large ammount.
its looking like yet another frigging phonecall, because halifax again wont recognise my password, yes it has entered correctly! and i entered the username correctly too
My wife banks with HBOS, which transfers "small" (can't remember how small, but certainly up to £2,000) amounts immediately
piggy, what date did you send it?
It must have recognised your password or you wouldn`t have been able to access your account to send the money in the first place. Transfers to the same bank are same day, but between two different banks could be a bit longer. Assuming it was Wednesday just gone, I would give it until Monday. Is there a pending payments facility on your internet banking?
Now we're getting somewhere!

Unfortunately, although Barclays participates in FPS, Halifax doesn't: http://en.wikipedia.o...Participating_members

Therefore, if by "last Wednesday" you actually meant "this Wednesday", then the funds will be unlikely to appear in the recipient's account before Monday morning. If, however, you really did mean Wednesday 18th, then there's a problem somewhere and you'll need to contact Halifax ASAP.
