I've been feeling quite introspective today and been looking at some old photos of me as a child. The earliest clear memory that i have is when i was 4 - my first day at school (where i was quite naughty). I really wanted to be able to remember things before that age, but cant - maybe its a mental block?

So i just wondered, what is your earliest memory- and how far back does it go....ie what age?

Age two...with a doll my father bought for me.......i's a rather nice one....the following year my sister arrived followed by two brothers....all downhill after that I'm afraid...

Interesting question

I have a memeory of a man in a cloth cap giving me a gold coin. I was ebing held by someone
When I mentioned this too my mum, she knew immediately it was her father who died when I was a little over 18 months old

After that, my first memory that isn't clouded is going to school during my first week. I walked by myself, aged 5 about 1/2 a mile to school, My yonugest child is now 5 and at school to allow her to walk to school by herself is unthinkable

Aww Razz thats lovely....do you still have the doll? x

Ojread2...gosh ..a memory from 18 months...that's fab...what a lovely memory...being held by your grandfather... :-)
Sadly Silk...I believe but my mothers denied it...that I witnessed her hitting my father over the head with it shattering the dolls head.

We had cream carpet in the living room at the time and he, with drink taken managed to get coal all over it.

I'm not a violent woman but...........that man got his just desserts....but my doll was another matter. lol

OJ...I have friends who tell me that they got buses to school at age five and six. I drove my kids everywhere till they were well into their teens..........how the world has changed!

Oh no Razz...the poor doll...it must have been sad to see it all broken :-(

I had to walk half a mile down a country lane to catch a bus to get to school... we certainly wernt driven everywhere.... !!!

Knobby....thanks for sharing those photos!!!

Indeed you were very cute....can you remember them being taken?

Awww :-)
I have a few but can't put them in any order. I remember going to playgroup on the first day and writing my name backwards in different coloured crayon because I am left handed and that was the only way I could write for ages.
I can remember sitting in my pushchair and going to the shops with my sister for an ice lolly.
I would've been around 2 or 3 then.
Great photos Knobby...you look quite cute.......lol
As it happens 20k I can
I can remember a boy falling over in the playground at nursery and an ambulance coming - must have been about 3 - we all thought he'd died.(he went very quiet after screaming for so long)

Oh bless ...I like Sprouts.....we never had playgroup when i was a kid...but i'm just imagining you now surrounded by all your crayons.

My most favourite object in school was the sand pit....i loved it...and hated having to share it with anyone else....LOL

.........i still dont like sharing (certain things) LOL
i remember poking mum and dads dog on the nose, saying "miaow, miaow".... it snapped at my fingers over the coffee table and shortly after that it got 'sent to the farm to chase the sheep'. i was about 3 at the time and didnt find out till i was in my mid 30's that the dog was put down..... cant believe my parents kept up the pretence for so long!
I can remember being in my cot......it was dark wood, and I can see the bars. I am on my back. I would have to be at least 2 1/2 years old as I am in the bedroom of the house my parents moved into when I was that age.

My daughter was walked to the village school....just a short distance away-yet all the other children who lived by us were driven...and they were chubby...
She started taking a bus (7 mile journey) at 10.

Cath ...that must have been very frightening for you as a little one....

mandimoo...lol...the pretences that mum's and dad's kept up ..eh?

we used to get told (if we were naughty) that a man with a black sack would come and take us away..... - it never stopped us though LOL

Question Author
