of a rant.
Can anyone tell me why sometimes things seem so difficult to do.?

Problem--my elderly neighbour , 88 years of age , living alone , with care support, and has dementia, has lost his walking stick, somewhere in the locality .

He has no idea where it could be. He manages at the moment to take his little dog out for a walk , and the rest of us in the village keep an eye on him during his short .walk.

2 days ago he came back without his stick, we have searched high and low in the hedges ,on the local field to no avail.

He has had this stick for 18 years on loan from the Social services.

I thought it would be a simple job to get a replacement --but no.

To get another he needs to see his GP for a referal to the occupational therapist , who will then come and see him in 4--6 weeks.

But he can buy one immediately from the disability centre in the next town, This facility is run by the Social S ervices.

Absolutely incredible.!

1 man , 1 stick --hardly mega bucks for the NHS. .

So will take him this afternoon to get one.Thank you very much for no help at all.Grrrrr!!!

understand the rant, brenda.
lacking common sense seems to be a requisite for some people to work in various areas of life :D
How bloody annoying.

Did you have your duck albaqwerty?
I didn't know sqad617 was a neighbour of yours.LOL
It is so so frustrating...when my mum needed handrails it took ages to get them with lots of home visits and then we had to arrange fitting...not a problem but if they had said that in first place I would have gone on and just done it. He is lucky to have you. PS I put address sickers on all my mum's stuff in the end. Thought about tying a luggage label to her as well.!! Her local shop was fab they would help her to pack her shopping and check that there was no unpaid for stuff in her bag....bless her.
carrust.....LOL.....was wondering if brenda woujld take me as well?

sorry for hi-jacking brenda
It is such a stupid system, why can't they just replace it. He obviously needs it, I would rather buy him one than have him go without.
brenda, you have got me on the thread under false pretences, when I saw the heading:

"I'm having a bit"
You can take me if you like, Sqad. ;-) lol

Brenda - breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Repeat this excercise several times. x x
Once NHS sticks (adjustable sort) are issued to patients they're not returnable nor re-used for others, for fear of the sticks being damaged.

The local Tip or charity shops can supply replacements.
I was gonna say the same as tambourine.

Girl here at work broke her ankle and was given a pair of crutches. Once she got better she was told to throw the crutches away!!!! What a waste!!!!!
well you wouldn't want a damaged crutch would you.....
However ;( they remain the property of NHS and sale on ebay etc could lead to prosecutions.
Oh dear, overlaid, and missed the opportunity for a wise crack there,
Er, no not a wise crack,
I shoud have said funny remark.
