Today a foot-baller has apparently rented Blenheim Palace for his wedding reception at the cost of .500.000-1,000.000. A lot of good could be done with that sort of money. What unselfish use would you put money to if you had it? ...deprived children, medical research, small buisinesses or needy friends and relatives. Would you set up a buisiness with profits going to good causes? And would it do your soul good to spend money in this way? ABed: if you MUST move this could it be both here and wherever you see fit-please!

What an obscene amount of money to spend on a wedding.... I get so angry when I hear about these sort of things. If I had that much spare dosh, I would help out all the people, who through no fault of their own, are living in poverty, appalling housing, or living on the street.
Well I suppose a decent hall in a village will be say 2500 (just for the venue) and the average wage is say 500 per week, the ratio of a footballer earning 100k per week to the cost of hiring Blenheim Palace is the same.

I see nothing wrong with it.

However, I do think footballers earn too much for the little they do, but that is not really the question is it.
PS I would buy some farm land around my home and open an animal sanctuary.
All of us - if we had such obscene amounts of money - would we REALLY go out and help the poor, give loads of money to charity, etc ?

Nobody knows until it happens. When I won 125,000 on Millionaire I thought I was going to give it all away, but I didn't, I just stopped buying Farm Stores baked beans and moved up to Heinz.
whiffey, if I had that much money, just to spend on a wedding, then yes I would give some away, and yes to the people really struggling. I remember watching a documentary a couple of years ago, about this woman with kids, living in a tower block, bailiffs at the door, damp ridden walls, no way out for her, and I still remember that. And would give to people in that situation where its so bleak.

btw, did you really win millionaire?

I agree whiffey that most of us probably wouldn't actually do good deeds...but isn't it a shame that more don't? And joe-that is one way of looking at it....but our footballers are nothing compared to the Asian millionare who spent something like 30,000,000 on his daughters wedding.
We are getting married next year and am going to save up around 4 grand and most of that is going on our honeymoon so will have a simple wedding and a few bottles of bubbly and a good old pi ss up at our place.and proud of it. you dont need to spend that much money on getting married all you need is people around you that love you and are happy for you
I would open a donkey sanctuary, those poor animals are really mistreated and they are so cute.
