I found on wikipedia that:

"The Green Party was originally formed as PEOPLE, or the Ecology Party, in Coventry in 1973......The party changed its name to become the Green Party in the 1980s."

It changed from Ecology Party to Green Party in 1985.
It changed from People to Ecology in 1975.
I knew that without looking it up on wikipedia

I thought it might have been the result of the yellow party merging with the blue party.....;-))

I confess to being nowhere near as knowledgable as you bernardo!

It's been the Green Party since before I was born, so thought I'd try and find out.
