After the attacks on air bases and air defence assets on the peninsula in recent days, the Black Sea Fleet HQ in central Sevastopol was hit this afternoon, and although officuially there were no casualties, unofficially it seems that was far from the case. And there's just been another huge explosion in the city.

This time there was no prevaricating by Ukrainian sources as to responsibility, and they even indicated that these were British or French cruise missiles launced from Su-24.

Meanwhile it was confirmed that in Zaporizhzhya, Ukrainian forces hve definitely broken through all the Russian defence lines and can advance on Tokmak, a vital rail hub.

And NBC reports that contrary to public statements from Jake Sullivan, The US will after all send a small number of long range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. At long last.

Russia appears to have also lost a naval commander in land-locked Nagorno-Karabakh during Azerbaijan's own (and rather more successful) special military operation, to add to having its Black Sea Fleet attacked by a country with no navy to speak of ...

"And there's just been another huge explosion in the city"

Thermal power plant.

I appreciate there are many abers who's knowledge of this war is far superior to mine, but not for one second did I think the fighting would still be going on.
I maybe thought a few months .?

On the minus side, the Russian terrorist state carried ot a series of attacks in Kherson region, on villages, using incendiary munitions and bombs from aircraft. Targeting defenceless civilians, several killed.

This is but a single example of the constant barrage that russia employs all along the front line against civilian targets. Brutal and ultimately pointless as it has zero military worth and simply wastes their weapons. A side of the conflict that is largely unreported because there are not enough hours in the day to cover it all.

I know no war should be glorified but Ukraine didn't ask for the despot on its doorstep to come in uninvited

It just makes me sad.  How utterly, utterly stupid and senseless and needless it all is.

It just makes . me sad.  How utterly, utterly stupid and senseless and needless it all is.

well Putin think Ukraine is his-crain - and so there is a point, re establishment of the Russian empire ( empire of the slavs)

Trump gave him the green light - "like they speak russian in the Ukraine so they're russian, right?"

Putin in return said that he wd make Trump the richest man in the world

Z admitted today that it would be a long war - and he is obviously dependent on US arms

Well it was British or French missiles that it seems killed the head of the Black Sea fleet Sokolov today.

But the news about the ATACMS from the US is huge. And it hopefully means Germany will follow suit with its Taurus missiles

Why has Poland become less supportive of Ukraine's struggle with their enemies. For some reason, according to the news on BBC tonight, Poland is not supplying  any substantial materiale to their neighbours. Why?

Question Author

Tensions between Poland (and other countries in the area ) and Ukraine arose because of the grain corridor through the country to allow Ukraine to export its grain after Russia blockaded its ports. The fear being that cheaper Ukrainian grain would undercut Poland's farmers despite the fact that the grain was not destined for Polish and other E European markets.
The Poles got narked by a few comments from Ukraine and this led to a response by a Polish minister that was taken out od context. President Duda, who made a very strong speech in support of Ukraine at the UN, since spoke up to reassure Ukraine of Poland's continued support.
Poland has already given Ukraine most of what it could anyway. Don't believe the "war fatigue" nonsense. There's an election in Poland where farmers are an important part of the electorate.

The Russians of course loved it just as they were celebrating the non supply of ATACMS. But they won't be celebrating now after the news from Washington and the attack in Sevastopol which was mentioned on their news channels: a sure sign that it was something Big. The Black Sea fleet may well have been decapitated. We'll have to wait and see.
