No one approach is better than any other here.... Do what works for you.

Helen, can you drink things like hot chocolate with cream? I imagine it would still be easy for you to put on a lot of weight eating chocolate eclairs and other high sugar/high fat foods that don't fill you up
I can’t drink hot chocolate with cream never could before the op, yes I could fill up on eclairs and other sweets but I suffer from dumping syndrome and it makes me very I’ll and has some nasty side effects
Do you choose to eat low carb, or is it what is best with minimal space for good intake?...if that makes sense?

Sometimes it is small changes.....
For me despite all my hobbies boredom is a bit problem. I am going to put a sign on my fridge door saying
YOU ARE NOT HUNGRY YOU ARE BORED GET YOUR FAT *** OUT OF THE KITCHEN NOW!!!!
^^^*good* intake should be *food* intake

I just had to Google dumping syndrome. I think the combination of sugar and fat can cause nasty digestive issues at the best of times.
Lol Rowan. My mantra on another site discussing diet is
"Dear Stomach...you are bored,  not hungry...so shut up!"
It was all by choice in the beginning but even though I swapped to lentil pasta my stomach will not tolerate it.

I have something similar to dumping syndrome if I have too much fat.... I can have fish from the chippy if I take the batter off, more than about Half a dozen chips with it I can be in the loo all evening, a traditional cooked breakfast is a thing of the past. I can't eat Greggs sausage rolls either.... I blame years of low fat diets. Luckily I have learned to modify recipes.
i have been doing slimmimg world for 4 months and have lost about 1st 2 lb. my husband is also doing t and has lost nearer 2 stone. I find that very annoying! Sometimes both of us doing it is a good thing, but sometimes not!
i find soup is my saviour - i'm not a huge fan of veggies, so find it easy to get them in in soup. My best xmas pressie was a soup maker - anyone with SW friendly soupmaker recipies?
My aim is to be merely overweight rather than obese!

I am also a big soup fan, chickpea, and carrot with lots of coriander, turmeric and garam masala is warming, and anti inflammatory

Italian tomato with a little wholewheat pasta. Canned tomatoes, fresh basil, chopped onion, a little oregano and a chopped garlic cloves or six... I love garlic.
in my soup maker recipe book theres a chicken and garlic soup that has 35 cloves of garlic in!
bednobs, slow cooked root vegetable soup is excellent. I make it in the slow cooker with celeriac, swede, carrots, butternut squash, leeks, Marigold Swiss Boullion. Sometimes I add chopped peppers, ginger, whatever I've got but no potatoes.
Sweet potato and carrot soup with chicken stock and chicken is my favourite I make it really thick
I'd like to join you. I was 13st 5lb last Monday and am now 13st 3lb. At 5ft 2in I really should lose a few stones but my goal is one stone.

This week I've cut out bread which is my main problem as I could eat it with anything. I did lose a stone, now regained, in 2021, by following a low carb diet. This time I'm counting calories, allowing myself about 1200 each day and the odd crusty roll!

35 cloves of garlic!!!! However if they are roasted first....mmmmmm
Carrot. Sounds like a sensible approach that will still allow for an occasional treat within your allowance.
yes, it's 35 roasted and six crushed
I've been trying to get the courage to cook the 100 garlic chicken

Sounds lush, I could definitely eat that.

Just done my online grocery order, lots of veggies and fruit, low fat cheese, and some extra lean mince. Will batch up some healthy pasta sauces, and a couple of reduced fat hotpots. Also ordered some extra chunky soups that I can add even more veg to.
Cleared out my freezer, realised I have lots of chicken breasts and pork steaks, and for some reason I have two bags of prawns... Reduced fat seafood sauce added to list
I don't know if anyone is interested, but I make a protein soup.
I poach chicken breasts with added chicken stock, once the chicken is cooked remove and cool then shred, into the stock I add edename beans and butter beans, a little garlic and some salt, lemon juice and ginger, Add the chicken back in and eat as required.
