Or should I say obsolete. I ask this because someone asked me the other day if my car had sensor lights, I said no, why would I need them I've been driving long enough to know when I need to switch them on.
The same was put to me about a wiper sensor, if it rains you just switch them on don't you.
Ok so the 2 examples above are just a fraction of what is just done on our behalf without having to think for ourselves.
This morning on TV someone was coming up with the most basic advice on how to save energy, basically just switching off, teaching how to suck eggs really. Do people really not know?

Can you give an example / gadget that's made our brain obsolete?

Looks like most can't remember what the post was about. :0)
pimply - in that case, the answer is "Yes".
Sanmac, the same here. Daytime running lights, but many don't realise that the rear has no lights then.
Almost true, Hopkirk, some cars run with front and rear illuminated in DRL mode.
I was hankering after something different for breakfast - fried brains sounds like just the thing.
Toasters, kettles etc. I often see people waiting for the kettle to switch itself off, seemingly not realising they can switch it off.
but it won't have reached it's boiling point until it automatically switches off surely.
Must admit, the sums I once did in my head I now grab my phone and utilise an app to solve.
How sad is that?
i don't do sums any longer, i used to work in a pub and that taught me to add up quickly, now it's all mechanised i no longer need to tot up the drinks.
I don't think sensor lights are a good example of making your brain obsolete.
It just frees your brain to do other things :-)
Instead of worrying about whether you've remembered to switch them off, necessitating a jump-start or a visit from the brrakdown people(!)
Calculators might be a better example, but even there, arguably it is just allowing your brain to work in a different way.
emmie, my own kettle will continue to boil, if I let it, for up to thirty seconds before switching itself off.
I do a lot of mental arithmetic - maybe a bit too much.

There is a bit of a lag - about 2 seconds - between the water boiling & the auto switch clicking off. If you switch off manually you can save 2 seconds worth of leccy on every boil!
Oh it's way more than 2 seconds Davebro. With the price of electricity forecast next January you would save a lot switching it off when it just starts boiling, and by putting less in.
I haven't timed it - don't think it's as much as 30 with my cheapo kettle.
Surely though a watched pot never boils. :-)

Brain frying news from the media.Example.. for the last 7 weeks I've lost count how many times we've been told that the new PM will be choosen on the 5th of Sept @ 12.30 pm.
But mentioning things in just one news broadcast only would be ridiculous.

Day and night for 7 weeks canary?
Everything is a selling point, to reinvent or create something just to make people think they need it, creates customers. There will always be tweaked gadgets, new labour saving devices and the like because that's what sells.

Even though i have deleted many news apps and others that are of no interest to me, i still get so called news coming though about Meghan Markle.I have no interest in her.
