I’M Really Frightened....

I woke up this morning and didn’t know what day it was, what date or even what month. Mr Smow was in shower getting ready for work. I sat bolt upright and thought this is ridiculous! How can I not know?? I even looked out of the window at the weather to see if that would help but no luck. My mind was just blank. Eventually Mr Smow came back into bedroom and could see I was distressed so I told him. He looked shocked but tried to reassure me that it was probably because I’m such a bad sleeper that my brain was exhausted but surely it’s more than that?? I’ve been upset all day about it.

Did you have a glass of alcohol last night, or anything that could affect your sleep or memory?

People can be in some funny states when they wake up from their dreams, if you can remember them or not.

I'm unsure on the history of your brain, but if you know what day, date and month it is now, then I wouldn't worry too much.

I rarely know the date, but i can usually tell you the day.
I would agree with Mr Smow. Lack of sleep can have quite bad side affects.

Have you been to the doctor?

Not not had any alcohol. Ironically I’ve got an MRI scan this weekend, after the episode I had on the aeroplane in November. Its just really upset me.

I suffer from severe insomnia, have had for years, but have never had this.
I don't think it's that unusual especially if you have insomnia, and it sometimes takes a little while for your brain to boot up in the mornings if you are very tired or stressed. How long before you did work it out?
"but have never had this."

How would you know if you can't remember ;) Just pulling your leg Smow.

Hopefully you will be able to get some insight during the MRI?

It does sound like something lack of sleep could easily influence.
Confusional arousal, not as exciting as it sounds, and nothing to worry about unless it happens a lot

I’d been awake for ages when I realised I didn’t know the date - I hadn’t just woken up. And I never did work it out - he had to tell me :(
I often have no idea what day it is. Always on my insomnia days.
Sometimes i forget things, then when i question what i forget, it puts it further away from grasp. Then it comes to me hours later. Maybe this kind of thing just happened with the date, naturally or due to lack of sleep?

Happens to me a lot.

Brain games may help you smow? You can get loadssss for the ipad.
I check the computer every morning.
I am sorry this happened Smow
this has happened to me - and I thought - OK lock the door, not knowing name date and a ddress is straightforward condfusion
just wait and see and it should come back
30 mins

Since you are having an MRI scan since you are on the medical conveyuor belt - discuss it with the doctor who ordered your scan - 'I had an episode of confusion without convulsing, on ..... )

is it more than that? - wait and see .... you are seeing doctors anyway

I think the fact that I didn’t know what month it was upset me the most. I looked out of the window and it was sunny so I was asking myself if it was summer. I’m scared it’s something serious because after having the seizure on the plane(I’ve not had one before or since) when I came round and was surrounded by crew and staff I again didn’t know where I was, when it was, or anything. Am scared it’s some form of dementia starting??
honestly it is impossible to say
wait and see
( which kinda is always the course in neurology )
can't answer your question but I do hope you feel calmer soon xx
Maybe when you woke up, you were in a similar mind state to the one when you woke up after the stroke?

You may have had a dream which put you in that place, one that you didn't remember when you woke up. We dream all the time without realising it. It's how the brain stores memories.

I recently had a road traffic acident, when people overtake me, it puts me in the mid set after the accident (nervous, bit intimidated) momentarily.

Maybe a similar thing happened to you, as having a seizure is quite traumatic, especially waking up surrounded by people.

I think what you experienced was minor PTSD. But i mean.. i have no idea medically.

I don’t know the last time I went to bed and had a normal nights sleep and just woke up in the morning. Years and years ago. I fall asleep for about 30 mins, have a weird dream then just wake up. Then am awake for about an hour, then fall asleep for half hour again. Have absolutely no idea why my body/brain doesn’t just fall asleep and stay asleep.
have you tried chamomile tea?
My brother in law has all sorts of seizures, traditional epileptic and non epileptic, sleeping and waking, sometimes he fits in his sleep (not always limb jerking) and can be randomly confused throughout the day afterwards, he also has blank episodes. I'd say its less likely to be any form of early onset dementia and far more likely to be a form of fitting so try not to worry and good you're having an MRI scan so soon x
Question Author
Yes I’ve tried chamomile tea, mediation tapes, white noise.........
hopefully is there is anything at all the MRI will pick it up, though surely it only picks up actually physical issues?
