No they can't, Jackdaw. You can only be disconnected in an absolute emergency, which you would be without the smart meter, or by court order.
It is true they don't need to come to property to disconnect you and can do it remotely but they can not and never will be able to disconnect you on a whim.
And why would they? They want to use electricity - that's how they make their money.
Regarding price hikes, they still have to give you the proper notice which gives you the legal right to switch providers without penalty if they put the charges up during the contract term if you are on a fixed term.
