Is it possible to have a hearing aid that dosn't have to be in the ear? This might seem crazy but I am deaf and hate the ear piece.

I am deaf too have been all my life. No all hearing aids ear piece need to go into the ear. I know what you are talking about as the moulds can become uncomfortable. If you are profoundly deaf you should perhaps go to GP and he/she could recommend a cochlear implant which would be a big deal.
I'm trying to work out where the cochlea might be, if it's not in the ear?
Forget a cochlear implant as very few cases of deafness would benefit from this major and expensive procedure.

I know of no hearing aids which do not have an ear piece.
Well Sqad I was offered one by my consultant in April - she said that I would benefit from it - I said no way hosay.
I’m sure you can buy something that improves hearing that uses headphones rather than anything in the ear.

Many years ago a friend of mine had a Sony Walkman that had the optional facility to amplify the surrounding sound (rather than play a tape) – which could have doubled as a hearing aid.

It might make you look hip, walking around with people thinking that you are listening to music – when actually you can hear everything they say (and converse with them).

As with most things in life the more you pay the better the quality – so reckon on paying at least £20 for a quality product.
Here’s the type of thing I was thinking of on ebay, they have a standard 3.5mm jack socket allowing use of alternate headphones.

Check out the Phonak Audeo... yes it does have a very small ear piece, but it's quite comfortable and is very small...
