I have used an NHS hearing aid for 6 years..recently needed a second aid.
The second aid is now having a new ear mould made as it was hurting..
Hearing is pretty bad I seem to be in my own little world not hearing much without them.

I always said there is no need to spend on expensive private aids when the NHS supply perfectly good aids...but, now having second thoughts.
Can any one advise on what to expect different/better with private hearing test and aids please..

Also how much money am I expecting to pay?

I've been wearing NHS hearing aids and have bought many private hearing aids too but will always go back to the NHS ones.

I will never buy another private hearing aid again.

Thank you both for replying.

I note on the Which report it says the NHS can provide a different air to the more regular aid most people wear. I also noted there is a type for Tinnitus sufferes too. I have a permanent engine running in my head accompanied by whistling..I'm thinking I need to speak to my Au diologist when I collect the new mould, early January.

It's good to get opinions of other users..

My husband has 2 NHS aidscabd doesn't understand why I'm finding it do difficult..
Thanks for your response, Thisoldbird.

Thanks for that link Chris. I wear a hearing aid and that was an interesting read as I may need another in the near future.
personally, I've just found hearing aids make the whistling and chirping louder, Thisoldbird, but I haven't inquired about more recent models.

Thanks again responces..

Since needing 2 aids I've found, while wearing 1..the other ear has not only the humming and whistling bug an echo too..so understand what you mean kno.

This old age is ok so long as you don't weaken lol.

Happy Christmas boys and girls..I'll update when i get my new mould back..
Thanks for this Thisoldbird, Mr. J2 is struggling with his NHS aids and considering others. Quite often he has to leave one out because his ear was bleeding from the mould. Even so, occasionally he simply can't hear me.
We sing in a choir and he can hear the music and his own voice in his head, so holds note and tempo - odd. Driving me nuts quite honestly and has led to so many misunderstandings.

Thanks for the info.. Expensive, aren't they?

Jourdain2 I think first we ought to speak to our NHS audioligist as it seems they have other options worth discussing. That's what I'm planning after this helpful post... My next appointment is early January so I'll update here with my results..good or bad.
Thanks, please do. Meanwhile - Happy Christmas!
