To loud sounds mi is 2 and half and recently has developed a pure hatred of any loud noises, and even soft ones like pans rattling in the kitchen.
The ice cream van makes her cry and car horns frighten her out of her skin :( is this just a phase??

Might be worth getting her ears checked.
Get her hearing checked out, ask your doctor or HV to refer you. It could be that she had a problem that you were unaware of and it cleared up and now she is hearing normally but to her it sounds super loud.

I remember when my toddler couldn't stand the sound of the Hoover and this turned out to be caused by ear problems.

Most of my children have had glue ear/hearing trouble. The eldest girl's hearing is not right at the moment but there is no sign of glue ear. You will probably have to wait a couple of weeks to get Mi's hearing tested.

I know theres a waiting list but I will give them a list as long as my arm why i want her hearing tested. Shes meant to be done every so often but as we have moved regularly its fallen behind despite me asking for it to be done.
The commonest cause in a child aged 2yrs is attention seeking.

However there are other causes and referral to an ENT surgeon is necessary.
Question Author
Defo not attention seeking as she puts her hands on her ears and cries and wont be comforted.
How is she with crowds Fire? My son Ciaran is mildly autistic and when he was toddling he became very sensitve to stimulus particularly noise and crowd overstimulus.
I think its due to their senses developing. Mine was same but grew out of it
Hi, It's worth going along to the docs, and asking for a thorough check up. In the meantime, you could check out info re Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). As nox has mentioned, noise is a big dislike for those that suffer ASD. Early intervention can provide kids, that have ASD, and their families with the skills that they will need. I don't want to cause you concern, as the little one may, as you say, be going through a phase. Quite often ASD isn't picked up until later years, so it's worth voicing your concerns to you GP. All the best
my first thought was possible mild autism also,or aspergers. i believe it can develop around this age.
To set the answers (all excellent),they need to be put into some sort of perspective starting with the commonest cause to the least commonest.

1) Attention seeking.......by far the commonest.
2) Middle ear deafness,
3 Secondary to Autism.....by far the least common.

Don't get too distressed about the causes until she is fully investigated.
