DT, is one of the Merde books by someone called Genevieve? My dad bought that one for my mum to encourage her to speak French. But he obviously didn't leaf through it beforehand as she was horrified. I'll never forget her saying, 'I didn't know half those words in English, let alone French!'
thats them - but they are useful for understanding colloquial French.......and pretty amusing if not somewhat smutty in the middle, titled, "la chasse" and "la conquête" I think.......
Confusing:Only the French would have the same word, 'aimer', for 'to love' and 'to like'. and the same word 'baiser' for 'to kiss' and 'to..er.. ahem'. Says a lot about the culture; context is everything. Curiously, the word 'chatte' means 'pussy' in both meanings in the respective languages. And 'queue' while it may mean a queue in French,is 'tail' and also something anatomical which could be so described!
