Exercise is not the best way to reduce weight. It helps but one has to do a lot of buring calories and eat very little to replace them. Besides you may well be turning fat into muscle, which is heavier. Give it time to see any affects but if you really want to reduce weight as opposed to get fit & healthy, then check your diet.
I bet your clothes feel looser though, don't they.
Follow these steps :
1.Your calorie intake should be less than the calories you burn all day .
2. Don't exercise with empty stomach . Make sure you kick-start your metabolism in morning by having a biscuit or a cup of tea. Having long breaks b/w meals slow down metabolism so keep on eating something after 3 4 hours .
3.Your diet should be protein rich and low on carbs and also have 30-35 grams protein intake after going to gym as protein increases your fat-burn rate .
4. Stop eating sugar and other sweet things .
Just follow these steps , weight will decrease automatically.Exercise should be a life long habit and not just for the sake of weight loss . If you have any doubt , PM me .
sheranudeep..... there is no PM function on this site.
" Stop eating sugar and other sweet things ".........but " Make sure you kick-start your metabolism in morning by having a biscuit or a cup of tea."

How contradictory is that???

If you want to kick start your metabolism-have some eggs or a bowl of porridge.

thanks for the replies.
for breakfast I have a fresh made vegetable shake and a protein bar. Lunch I have cerial. I then have a vegetable stir fry in the evening and snack on fruit during the day.
I want it to be long term but in 2 months time I am having wedding photos done so I am trying to lose my belly before then.
I can see your desire to gym as well then. Unsure what size belly you have but mine looks little different to me after 9 months dieting (very little exercise) and the loss of 1½ st ! Ok the trousers are a little looser but not so much that I'm jumping for joy yet.
Except for the protein bar-which is not real food-there is very little protein in your diet. You need more meat/poultry/fish, and some nuts and seeds, along with healthy oils.
You need to eat to lose weight.
you're eating too much sugar and carbs and not enough protein

<cereal> - you might as well eat the cardboard box with a few spoons of sugar on top

<snack on fruit duting the day> - an apple contains approx 4 spoons of sugar, a banana 3 spoons

all these sugars will trigger your system for converting food into fat

eat meat, fish and greens - simple

I forgot to mention I am vegetarian though :(
OG is right. You probably are losing weight but putting on muscle, which weighs more. If you stick at this regime, you will probably start noticing a reduction in weight in a couple of weeks, but most gym users find they seem to put on weight for the first few weeks of working out.
That's tough. When I was vegetarian I progressively got fatter - all that cheese and of course many veggie substitutes are cleverly processed concoctions of oils, sugars and carbs.

Just go easy on the fruit, nuts and tofu and major on fresh vegetables and salad.

Butter is ok and up to 4 ozs of cheese a day.

However, not being omnivorous does make it difficult to get your protein/carbs/fats balance right

Use cream rather than milk - again, it has less sugar
If you are going to have fruit-stick to berries,as they have the lowest sugar/carb content.
I think Quorn is supposed to be low in fat, so that's worth a try.

oh and please could you give me a few meal suggestions? I eat greens at night in form of a stir fry. I could save my protein bar for lunch time maybe? what about break fast and what to snack on?
thanks

ps I can eat fish if I try hard enough I am not 100% vege. In situations like this I will be prepared to bend the rules a bit.
Do you eat dairy-cheeses,cream,full fat yogurt? Eggs? Pulses and brown rice?
All of those will give you far more scope for a healthy diet.
Just greens for a meal will not give your body the nutrition it needs. You still need calories to maintain just your basal metabolism-ie-the basic workings of your body.
I mentioned seeds earlier...both pumpkin ans sunflower are very nutritious. Have them as is roasted-or in the form of a butter-easily made with a blender and some olive oil.

All the information you could possibly need on what is nutritious is here -

Good idea - Quorn seems a good option
